And no matter how often I swallow them, they always return. Sophie and her father move from Hamburg to Munich. Sophie is totally not amused and more than just moody.
She acts like a year-old at the height of puberty, not like the year-old she is. And Lukas recently moved to his girlfriend in Paris. She did not have any other friends or other people that she was close to.
Either way, her self-righteous, childish and exaggerated behaviour made it hard to relate to her or like her. However, evoking sympathy is not something any character needs to do…as long as their relatable. During the course of the novel I grew to like Sophie a bit more, but the beginning was tough.
I get it when Sophie and her female love interest Alex do not want to be labelled. The sex is great. The sex with guys is not great.
Like magic. This means, that you might have felt attracted to people of the same sex once or twice before — in a way that is not platonic. One of the reasons that this representation went wrong could be that the female love interest was originally a guy. What bothers me even more than this are the many sexist attitudes and undertones that keep turning up in this book. Not really. I know that this might be some weird attempt to reclaim this word, but the attempt failed. Authors should be aware that the teenagers that read their books will learn from them.
